Artist Biography

Michael Shuck brings over 30 years of design, management and construction experience to every project that he works on. He grew up working in the family construction company and then attended Oklahoma State University. At OSU he was an architectural design studio critic where he enjoyed working with the students and learned a lot about getting the best out of people. Michael graduated in 1993 with a Bachelors of Architecture with a minor in Sociology. Upon graduation, he began his professional career at Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey + Associates in Wichita, Kansas.

While working at Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey + Associates Michael worked with several universities, school districts, and public institutions all with a common goal of improving the community. Highlighting his work with universities was the 250,000 square foot technology center at Pittsburg State University and Ackert Hall, a 71,000 square foot research facility that was developed to anchor the northwest corner of Kansas State University’s campus. He has also enjoyed working on one of the largest high schools in Kansas, Derby High School, where his wife Paula was an English teacher. Michael’s work with public institutions included several projects with the rapidly growing Greater Wichita YMCA where he designed several recreational facilities, aquatic playgrounds and skate parks.

In 2004 Michael went to work with Rand Elliott to focus his career on high quality design. While pursuing his passion for design, he achieved a high level of success and has been recognized with many national and international design awards for design excellence. His projects have earned many awards including 2009 International Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum for both the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City and ImageNet Consulting in Houston, Texas. He has also had projects recognized for design excellence nationally. One such project is Kirkpatrick Oil Hennessey in Hennessey, Oklahoma, which was awarded Interior Designs 2012 Best of Year award. He has received further recognition for design excellence with the publication of projects. One project, Kirkpatrick Oil Hennessey, has been published internationally twice in Hinge published in Hong Kong and International New Architecture published in China. He has had several other projects published in national magazines such as Interior Design and Architectural Record. He was especially honored to have his work for ImageNet Consulting on the cover of Interior Design.
